  • CES 2023: Belkin Goes Green In Six Of Their Top Selling Mobile Products

With many brands expected to make new product and concept announcements, Belkin has taken a different approach, announcing their sustainability efforts and eco-friendly versions of their top six selling mobile products instead. The six products mentioned are of Belkin's BoostCharge series, specifically the 25W single USB-C, 40W dual USB-C, 45W and 65W versions of their dual USB-C GaN chargers, 108W 4-port GaN charger and finally, their 10W magnetic car charger which leverages on MagSafe. From the looks of it, most of these eco-friendly versions look almost identical to their original counterpart. The difference is that it's made of 73-75% PCR (Post Consumer Recycled) plastic. For those unaware, PCR plastics are recycled plastic that has previously been used by consumers in products. It is then collected and processed to be used in the manufacturing of new products. Naturally, this act of recycling helps reduce the demand for new plastic, which often involves the use of fossil fuels and other resources. Aside from PCR, there are also a few other ways to recycle plastic for manufacturing such as PIR (Post Industrial Recycled) plastic, Ocean plastic and Bioplastics. However, due to the lack of efficiency and usable plastic yields from those methods, Belkin has opted for PCR instead. Like all other brands going green, the packaging of these new PCR versions will be made with zero plastic and will have a unique branding on it. Aside from that, Belkin will also bear the increased cost of manufacturing these products so that they will stay the same price as the original. The representatives at Belkin also stated that it will have an impact on their finance down the line, "It's an important initiative for Belkin, we are aware that it's a costly one, but it's the right thing to do." Currently, the PCR plastics are only used for the housing of the products but the team at Belkin are presently looking to explore more into integrating sustainable materials deeper into their supply chains, down to the raw materials. It's always good to see brands taking the effort to achieve their sustainability goals and looking forward to what Belkin has in store next. Belkin announced their sustainability efforts and eco-friendly versions of their top six selling mobile products. The products are five wall chargers and one car charger from their BoostCharge lineup. The products all look identical to their original but it's made of 73 to 75% PCR (Post Consumer Recycled) plastic.

  • ROG 2020 Gaming Laptops Buying Guide

For gamers who want to game and work on the go, it can be a difficult task to find the perfect laptop that balances between price, performance and weight. So let’s take a look at some laptops that might fit all three categories. For people who want a great gaming experience without having to fork out too much money, the ROG Strix G15 and G17 are excellent choices. Both come in black, and are pretty minimalistic. Both models can be specced up to have the newest 10th gen Intel Core i7 processors, 16GB of RAM, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 Super and 1TB of SSD storage. To top it all off, you get an IPS panel that has a refresh rate of 144Hz. With these specs, eSports titles or AAA games won’t be much of an issue at all. But if you’re looking to step up your game, or play a bit more professionally, there’s always the ROG Strix Scar 15. It looks quite similar to the G15 and G17, but the Strix Scar 15 has more RGB accents and a more aggressive profile. Specs-wise, it’s somewhat similar. You can get up to a 10th gen Intel Core i7, 16GB of RAM, NVIDIA GeForce RRTX 2070 Super and 1TB of SSD storage. You get the opportunity to upgrade the panel though, with the option for a 300Hz refresh rate screen. You might think a Core i7 is overkill, but for eSports tournaments? Every frame counts. Being able to get over 200 frames in-game is insane, and definitely provides a big advantage. With such high performance, you end up having to watch out for thermals. ROG has taken care of that concern by applying Liquid Metal instead of standard thermal paste to the CPU, which has better heat transfer properties, resulting in lower temperatures. Another cool feature this laptop has is the ROG Keystone 2. It’s essentially an encryption key that allows access to ROG ID, launch games, switch modes and more. There’s also something called a Shadow Drive, which is a separate encrypted partition on the SSD drive that can only be accessed when the Keystone is plugged into the laptop. It’s perfect for keeping confidential documents safe. So far, we’ve just been talking about gaming, but what about creatives who also need their laptop for work? In comes the ROG Zephyrus S15. The first thing you’ll notice is the radical change in design. This laptop is thin, sleek and looks professional enough to pass for a work laptop in the office. The Zephyrus line has always been about performance in a lightweight package, but thinness doesn’t equate to lower performance. In fact, it’s the opposite. The Zephyrus S15 can be specced out to include the 10th gen Intel Core i7, 32GB of RAM, an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Super and 1TB of storage. With the RTX 2080 Super, the S15 has the best GPU of the bunch. This laptop can handle any game out there and still get excellent framerates with the 300Hz refresh rate screen. In addition, the screen is Pantone validated, which makes it an excellent choice for people who have to edit photos or videos, do 3D animation or more with their laptop. Last but not least, the ROG Zephyrus Duo 15 is the laptop you’re going to want if price is of no concern. The laptop looks a bit clunkier than the others, but that’s because there’s actually a second screen. The ScreenPad+ is a half-height 4K display that’s right below the main display, which is no slouch either. The main screen is a Full HD screen with 300Hz refresh rate that’s also Pantone validated and supports G-Sync. Specs-wise, you also get the best available, with the 10th gen Intel Core i9, 32GB of RAM, an NVIDIA GeForce 2080 Super and 2TB of SSD storage in RAID 0 configuration. The i9 processor will allow for excellent performance in games and creative programmes, and the RTX 2080 Super will also reduce render times for video edits or 3D projects by a ton. There’s also Liquid Metal on the CPU, but more than that, airflow is greatly improved with this laptop because the ScreenPad+ lifts off the laptop chassis, resulting in better air intake and ergonomics. If you’re looking for something with no compromises, the Zephyrus Duo 15 might be the best option on the market. There’s no one laptop that will suit everybody’s needs, so hopefully this guide has helped you to make a more informed decision on which gaming laptop in the ROG lineup might be right for you. This content is brought to you in partnership with ROG.

  • Everything You Need to Start a Podcast in 2020

Content by Shawn Koh (Tech360.tv Community Creator) Podcasting is quite popular these days. It is a good alternative to videos, and they are easy to create. Today, we will be sharing with you the items you need to start your own podcast. Firstly, the most essential item that you will need will be a good set of microphones. The Rode Pod Mic is an affordable option, costing S$150. This mic is comparable with the costly Shure SM7B (S$600), which is a very popular mic for professional podcasters. The Rode Pod Mic is a dynamic microphone, the build quality is great and it works best when you speak directly straight into it. Secondly, we have XLR (External Line Return) cables. A 3-meter, 3-pin XLR cable costs around S$22. You don’t want to get something too cheap because they might be unreliable. One cable works for one mic. These cables are designed to deliver balanced microphone and line-level signals over distances. RODE PSA 1 is a studio boom arm. It is designed to help one move their mic easily and prevent any shaking from the surroundings to affect the microphone. It offers a horizontal reach of 820mm, a vertical reach of 840mm and full 360-degree rotation. It is easy to mount on desks and surfaces. The RODE PSA 1 costs around S$150. The ZOOM H5 is a reliable recorder for your recordings. It costs around S$300 and has 2 XLR cable inputs. The capsule on top is also interchangeable and can be swapped out to fit another 2 XLR cables. It runs on 2 AA batteries and it records onto an SD card. Although not a must-have, headphones are good to have to monitor your sound levels. An affordable option is the Audio-Technica ATH-M20x which costs about S$85. With more than one pair of headphones, comes a headphone amplifier. The Behringer Microamp HA400 takes the audio you input to it and splits it up to 4 different channels for up to four pairs of headphones to hear the audio being recorded. This headphone amplifier requires an external power supply adapter which can limit the portability of your set-up. It costs S$44. The total set-up for an average podcaster should cost less than S$1,000. This isn’t a budget set-up, but it’s not a high-end one either. Setting up for a Podcast is pretty simple, connect the microphone with the recorder through the XLR cables. From the recorder, you can link it to the headphone amplifier which then splits the sound to the respective headphones for audio monitoring.

  • CES 2023: Nvidia Announced RTX 4070 Ti, GeForce RTX 40 for Laptops

Nvidia has set the tone for what is expected to be a busy Consumer Electronics Show (CES) this year, hosting a news-packed address that saw the unveiling of new products, including the long-rumoured RTX 4070 Ti. Here are the top announcements from the event. RTX 4070 Ti The RTX 4070 Ti is finally here! The mid-range GPU is being touted as the most reasonable option to satisfy your 1,440p, 120fps or above gaming needs, thanks in large part to the chipmaker's deep learning super sampling (DLSS) 3 technology. Similar to its RTX 40 series siblings, the 4070 Ti takes advantage of machine learning to render entire frames, delivering better performance numbers on CPU-intensive games. The new card features 7,680 CUDA cores and 12GB of GDDR6X memory. For comparison, the 3090 Ti features a 10,752 CUDA and twice the GDDR6X memory. However, with the new Ada Lovelace architecture and the aforementioned DLSS 3, the 4070 can supposedly play Cyberpunk 2077 three times as fast as the 3090 Ti in Ray Tracing Overdrive mode. It is said to also consume less power than the 3090 Ti. The RTX 4070 Ti is scheduled to hit the market on 5 January for the starting price of US$799. You can expect to find a variety of options from different manufacturers. RTX 4080 Performance on GeForce Now Nvidia announced it's bringing RTX 4080 performance on its GeForce Now game streaming service via the new Ultimate membership tier. The new addition can let you stream games at up to 240 frames per second, with full ray tracing and DLSS 3 support. If you have a compatible monitor and are playing a game that supports Nvidia Reflex, you can even enjoy a low latency mode that reduces input lag. If you’re already an RTX 3080 member on GeForce Now, you can expect your account to be upgraded to the new tier for free. Nvidia said the RTX 4080 servers are slated to come online later this month in the U.S. and Europe, with other markets to follow later this year. As for the price, it'll retain the RTX 3080 membership's US$20 per month price. Nvidia also plans to continue to offer US$10 per month Priority memberships. GeForce Now for Cars Speaking of GeForce Now, Nvidia also announced it's launching the cloud gaming service to cars that would use the chipmaker's Drive platform. So far, partner auto brands include the Hyundai group (which covers Genesis and Kia), BYD and Polestar. The service would work on either Android or web-based infotainment systems, allowing you to access and play a library of over 1,500 games without the need for a separate console or device. Nvidia has yet to share details on the rollout of the service. RTX 40 for Laptops Laptops are about to become more powerful, with Nvidia soon launching mobile versions of RTX 40 graphics. The chipmaker said RTX 4090 and 4080 laptops are launching starting 8 February, while RTX 4070, 4060 and 4050 laptops are launching starting 22 February. Prices start at US$999. The mobile versions of Nvidia's RTX 40 series graphics use the same Ada Lovelace architecture as their desktop counterparts, packing the new, next-generation Max-Q technologies with DLSS 3 for faster performance. They're said to also be more energy efficient, with tri-speed memory control enabling the card to drop to lower-power RAM states and DLSS 3 upscaling being optimised for mobile use. While Nvidia didn't provide a list, you can expect every major manufacturer to come out with RTX 40 series-equipped laptops sometime this year, such as the likes of Samsung, HP, Dell, Acer, Asus, Gigabyte, Lenovo, MSI, Razer and Alienware, among others. Nvidia has launched the RTX 4070 Ti, which features 7,680 CUDA cores and 12GB of GDDR6X memory, priced at US$799. The chipmaker announced it's bringing RTX 4080 performance on its GeForce Now via the new Ultimate membership tier The cloud gaming service is also coming to cars that would use Nvidia's Drive platform. Nvidia is also launching mobile versions of RTX 40 graphics that would, like their desktop counterparts, be powered by the Ada Lovelace architecture.
