Apple’s Watch Pro Reportedly Features New Design, Bigger Battery That Could Last Multiple Days

Apple's September launch event is inching closer by the day, so we can expect a steady stream of information about new products that could soon come out.

One of which is the high-end variant of the Apple Watch Series 8, which has been dubbed the Apple Watch Pro. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman in his most recent Power On newsletter (via Bloomberg) said the wearable will debut a new design with a bigger display. If true, it'll mark the first redesign of the line since Series 4 launched in 2018. Gurman adds the device itself will be “a good bit bigger” than the current Series 7 thanks to the aforementioned new screen. The design also won't include the previously speculated flat sides but instead feature a revamped version of the familiar rectangular shape.

What's more, the wearable will ship with a bigger battery, which when combined with the rumoured low-power mode, could last multiple days on a single charge. While Gurman didn't share numbers, that claim alone, if true, easily beats the Watch 7, which tops out at 18 hours – less than a full day. The new power cell, along with the device's other internals, will be housed in a body that's described as being “a more durable formulation of titanium”, making it better suited for a wider range of use cases, including extreme sports, for example.

The Apple Watch Pro will additionally feature the previously predicted body temperature sensor. However, other sensors that have been mentioned as being in development before, such as the blood pressure sensor and the glucose sensor, aren't ready yet. Gurman reports the former won’t arrive until 2025, while the latter is still quite a ways off as it may not be ready until the end of the decade.

The new wearable is part of Apple's "flood of new products" that it plans to release between the second half of this year and the first half of next year. Some of the other forthcoming releases could include four iPhone 14 models, a number of M2- and M3-equipped Macs and a new HomePod.
