Vivo launches premium X200 series with MediaTek's 3-nanometre processor and Live Photo format capabilities. The X200 series is priced between 4,299 yuan to 6,799 yuan, targeting the high-end smartphone market. Vivo's X200 Pro model features a new Sony sensor, Zeiss camera, and supports 4K video recording at 120 frames per second.

This move comes hot on the heels of Apple and Huawei Technologies unveiling their latest flagship handsets in the market. The X200 series is priced between 4,299 yuan (US$608) and 6,799 yuan, as Vivo aims to make a mark in the high-end smartphone segment both in China and globally. Shipping of the X200 series is set to commence from October 19.

Initially recognised for its budget-friendly devices, Vivo has climbed the ranks to become the world's fourth-largest smartphone vendor in the second quarter, sharing a 9.1% market share with Oppo, as per IDC. In China, Vivo secured the top spot with an 18.5% market share in the same quarter, according to Counterpoint Research.

The X200 series by the Dongguan-based company comprises three models - the X200, X200 Pro, and X200 Pro mini - all powered by MediaTek's Dimensity 9400 system-on-a-chip. This chipset is optimised for edge artificial intelligence (AI) applications, immersive gaming, and exceptional photography. Edge AI allows real-time data processing and analysis directly on devices without relying on cloud services.

Vivo's adoption of MediaTek's Dimensity 9400 chip showcases its commitment to integrating cutting-edge technology into its smartphones, positioning itself ahead of its Android competitors. The chipset is expected to be embraced by other tech giants like Samsung Electronics, Oppo, and Xiaomi's Redmi later this year or early in 2025.

Supporting the Live Photo format features ensures seamless compatibility of the X200 imaging system with that of the iPhone, as highlighted by Vivo. This format enables users to capture moments just before and after a photo is taken, including audio, with a short video embedded after the image data.

The flagship X200 Pro model boasts a new Sony sensor and a Zeiss camera with 200 million pixels, promising enhanced detail even at 20x zoom and beyond, thanks to its advanced algorithms. Additionally, the model supports 4K video recording at 120 frames per second and cinematic slow-motion video capture, a feature also present in Apple's iPhone 16 Pro models.

Vivo's X200 series introduces network-free communication via Bluetooth connection, allowing devices to map location display and engage in one-on-one voice and text messaging within a range of up to 2 kilometres. The device also offers AI functions like "Origin Island" and "Circle to Search", enhancing user experience with cross-app operations and search capabilities.

Looking ahead, the X200 is expected to face competition from new Android devices with similar advanced processing power later this year and in early 2025. Competitors such as Oppo's Find X8, Xiaomi's Redmi K80, and Samsung's S25 FE are anticipated to challenge Vivo's latest offering in the market.
