British financial regulators are holding urgent talks with the government's cyber security agency and major banks to assess risks posed by Anthropic's latest artificial intelligence model.

Officials from the Bank of England, the Financial Conduct Authority, and the Treasury are in discussions with the National Cyber Security Centre. They are examining potential vulnerabilities in critical IT systems, which Anthropic's new AI model has highlighted.
Representatives from major British banks, insurers, and exchanges are expected to be briefed on the cyber security risks posed by the model, Claude Mythos Preview, at a meeting with regulators in the next fortnight.
Anthropic, an AI startup, stated that Claude Mythos Preview is deployed as part of "Project Glasswing," a controlled initiative. Under this project, select organisations are permitted to use the unreleased model for defensive cyber security purposes.
The company reported in a blog post earlier this month that the model has already identified thousands of major vulnerabilities. These vulnerabilities were found across operating systems, web browsers, and other widely used software.
Elsewhere, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent called a meeting with major Wall Street banks. This meeting focused on the cyber risk potential of the same AI model.
