Twitter users will soon need to undergo verification before accessing TweetDeck, as announced by the social media platform on Monday. The verification requirement will be implemented in 30 days.

In a tweet, Twitter revealed the introduction of an upgraded version of TweetDeck, featuring various new functionalities. However, it remains uncertain whether Twitter will charge users for both the old and new versions. No immediate response was provided by Twitter regarding this inquiry.

Previously available for free, TweetDeck serves as a popular tool among businesses and news organisations for efficient content monitoring. The potential introduction of charges for using TweetDeck could potentially contribute to Twitter's revenue growth, which has faced challenges in retaining advertising revenue since Elon Musk's ownership.

This development closely follows Musk's recent announcement regarding the limitation on the number of daily posts for both verified and unverified users. The purpose of this measure is to counteract excessive data scraping and system manipulation.

Musk's statement triggered significant backlash from Twitter users and advertising experts raised concerns about the impact it could have on new CEO Linda Yaccarino, who assumed the role just last month.

Under the revised policy, individuals are required to pay $8 per month for account verification, while organisations must pay $1,000 per month.

  • Twitter will enforce account verification for using TweetDeck, starting in 30 days.

  • An improved version of TweetDeck with new features has been announced.

  • It is unclear whether Twitter will charge users for both the old and new versions.

  • Elon Musk's recent announcement on post limitations faced backlash from users and concerns from ad experts.
