Twitter's blue bird logo to be replaced by X under Musk's leadership
Updated: Jan 8
Tech mogul Elon Musk reveals intentions to bid farewell to the Twitter brand and its iconic blue bird logo.
Under his ambitious vision, the social media giant aims to become a "super app" akin to China's WeChat. Elon Musk made a significant revelation on Twitter, stating his desire to transform the platform's logo.
In a tweet, he declared, "And soon we shall bid adieu to the twitter brand and, gradually, all the birds." The billionaire owner hinted at immediate action, saying, "If a good enough X logo is posted tonight, we'll make (it) go live worldwide tomorrow." Accompanying the announcement, Musk shared an image of a flickering "X" as a potential logo replacement. In a Twitter Spaces audio chat, he affirmed the change, admitting it should have been done long ago.
During Musk's eventful tenure as Twitter's owner since October, the company adopted a new business name, X Corp, aligning with his grand vision to create a "super app" similar to China's WeChat.
Twitter has not yet responded to requests for comments about the upcoming rebranding.
Twitter's iconic logo, portraying a blue bird, is touted as their most recognisable asset, as stated on the company's website. Consequently, they are fiercely protective of it. In April, the bird emblem was briefly replaced by Dogecoin's Shiba Inu dog, which notably boosted the meme coin's market value.
However, Musk faced significant backlash from users and marketing professionals when he recently announced that Twitter would enforce daily tweet limits for various accounts.
This move inadvertently benefitted Threads, a Meta-owned rival service, which experienced a rapid surge, attracting over 100 million sign-ups within just five days of its launch.
Adding to Twitter's challenges, the company encountered a lawsuit alleging it owes former employees at least $500 million in severance pay. Under Musk's ownership, Twitter has undertaken several workforce reductions, downsizing more than half its employees in a cost-cutting measure.
