Russia Fines Google and TikTok for Violating Content Regulations
Russia fines Google and TikTok for failing to comply with banned content order. Google fined 5 million roubles, TikTok fined 4 million roubles. Both companies did not respond immediately to requests for comment.
The Tagansky district court in Moscow has fined Google 5 million roubles (equivalent to $58,038) and TikTok 4 million roubles for not being able to identify content that closely resembles the material they were previously instructed to take down.
Both Google and TikTok have not yet provided any comments in response to these fines.
For years, Russia has been instructing foreign tech platforms to remove content that it considers illegal, and it has been issuing fines consistently for non-compliance.
Of particular concern to Moscow is Google's actions in removing YouTube channels belonging to Russian media outlets and public figures.
