Razer CEO Min-Liang Tan, in an exclusive interview with Yahoo Finance’s Lianna Brinded, revealed that the company is turning its concept project, Project Hazel, into reality and will be going into production. You may recall that Razer previously set up its first mask-making facility on 24 April 2020 to manufacture its own N95 face masks for sales and donations. The company’s face masks were awarded global certifications such as but not limited to: ISO 13485 and EN 14683 due to its quality.

However, despite these achievements, Tan told Yahoo Finance he realised that disposable face masks were not the most sustainable item to manufacture as soon as they were able to ship them out worldwide. He told the group to research and develop the “very best mask” and to take their time doing so.

Tan recounted that face masks will still be needed even after getting vaccinated due to the risk factor involved. “… even if you’re vaccinated, you still need to be incredibly careful,” Tan said. He also added that there are many countries that won’t be able to be fully vaccinated, and therefore, people will still need to be very careful.

Project Hazel was revealed in CES 2021 as a smart N95 face mask that is a cross between standard cloth and surgical mask and a full-on military gas mask with a filter. The mask features a high bacterial filtration efficiency, high fluid resistance, a detachable ventilator capable of filtering at least 95% of airborne particles, optimised airflow to prevent carbon dioxide to build up inside the mask and an auto-sterilisation function. To solve the mask’s sustainability, Razer added replaceable filters and rechargeable ventilators for the mask to be continuously used even after several uses.

Additionally, Project Hazel comes with a clear, transparent design and an unobtrusive, air-tight seal. You won’t have to worry about others not being other to hear you while wearing it due to its built-in voice amplification technology.

Razer has not disclosed to Yahoo Finance or the public via their official website when Project Hazel can be purchased and how much will the smart face mask cost.
