Antigravity, a drone brand incubated by Chinese camera maker Insta360, has unveiled its first product, the Antigravity A1, featuring an 8K 360-degree camera and pilot goggles.

Weighing 249 grams, the A1 is designed to meet regulatory requirements in most countries and is set for global release in January.

The A1 drone includes a dual-lens camera system mounted on both the top and bottom of its fuselage, enabling full environmental capture without blind spots. This mirrors the design of Insta360’s X series action cameras.

The drone comes with a pair of goggles and a hand controller, allowing users to pilot the drone from a first-person perspective. The A1 records all angles, enabling 360-degree video playback.

Antigravity was launched last month by Shenzhen-based Insta360 in collaboration with third parties. The A1 was developed by a global team of engineers, designers and creators.

The company focuses on “360 drones,” a category that previously required users to attach separate full-degree cameras to drones.

Antigravity enters a competitive market dominated by DJI, also based in Shenzhen. DJI recently launched the Osmo 360, an 8K panoramic video camera, marking its entry into Insta360’s core market.

As of 2024, DJI held about 70% of the global consumer drone market, according to Berg Insight. Insta360 led the consumer 360-degree camera market with a 67% share in 2023, according to Frost & Sullivan.

The launch comes amid China’s push to develop its low-altitude economy, which includes manned and unmanned activities up to 1,000 metres. The government sees the sector as a strategic industry for job creation, innovation and economic growth.

In December, China’s top economic planner created a dedicated department to oversee development strategies for the low-altitude economy.
