By integrating AI into Honor's devices, the technology will be able to autonomously identify elements in users' video calls. If any AI face swapping is detected in the video content, the tool will send a risk alert to the users. This move comes as the number of fraud cases using Deepfake technology has seen a staggering 3,000% increase globally in 2023, according to Beijing-based cybersecurity services provider QAX.

In addition to the anti-fraud tool, Honor also unveiled an AI-powered eye protection technology. This feature can transform mobile phone screens into personalised "defocus lenses" by adjusting the screen according to the user's habits and surrounding environment. While not intended for medical use, laboratory data shows that using such a screen for 25 minutes can reduce the index of nearsightedness by an average of 13 degrees, with a maximum reduction of 75 degrees.

The AI-powered eye protection technology will be built into Honor's next foldable Magic V3 smartphones, which will be available in China soon. The new handset will be much thinner than its predecessor, which held the record for being 9.9 millimetres thick folded. Following its premiere in China, the Magic V3 will be available in Europe.

Zhao stressed that device-based AI has advantages over cloud-based AI. Device-based AI recognises users' locations and physiological signs in real time and, thanks to its continuous computing power, can handle more complex data. Furthermore, device-based AI improves personal privacy protection by providing a more customised, ergonomic, and privacy-preserving intelligent experience.

Zhao emphasised the revolutionary potential of AI in changing software, smartphone applications, and internet services at a press conference. Understanding and detecting user intentions allows software to deliver extensive services such as booking flights, hailing taxis, and recommending local eateries and tourism spots. The incorporation of AI will allow these services to be smoothly integrated into cellphones.

Honour has proved its dedication to R&D by investing over 11.5% of its annual revenue in 2023. Zhao claimed that this ratio will continue to exceed 11% this year, underlining that AI will power all future Honour devices, like as smartphones, personal computers, tablets, and wearables.

Since 2012, MWC Shanghai, an annual mobile technology industry event, has served as a venue for displaying the most recent breakthroughs in AI, 5G, and intelligent manufacturing.
