Hong Kong’s privacy regulator has launched an investigation into a data breach at Louis Vuitton that compromised the personal information of about 419,000 customers.

The Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data said the leaked data included names, passport details, addresses, email addresses, phone numbers, shopping history and product preferences.
No payment information was affected, according to Louis Vuitton.
The company said it discovered that an unauthorised party had accessed some client data and is now working with regulators and affected clients.

The watchdog is also investigating Louis Vuitton Hong Kong to determine whether there were delays in notifying authorities.
According to the regulator, Louis Vuitton’s French head office detected suspicious activity on its computer system on June 13. It confirmed Hong Kong customers were affected on July 2 and reported the breach to the Hong Kong authority on July 17.

The luxury brand, part of French conglomerate LVMH, has reported similar data breaches in its operations in South Korea and Britain earlier this month.
