Google has revealed the date for this year's I/O developer conference.

The annual event, which features the search engine giant's latest developer solutions and consumer products, is happening on 10 May 2023 at Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View, California. Similar to last year, the keynotes will be in front of a limited live audience but will be broadcasted for everyone online.

"Keynotes will be live and available on demand following the event," said Google. "All sessions will be on demand to watch at your convenience."

Prior to the pandemic, I/O attendees could join workshops and interact with each other, apart from watching the major keynotes. Google has since scaled the event down to promote social distancing measures, either scrapping or shifting a lot of the additional activities online.

While Google doesn't have the full program list yet, there's already been a lot of speculation online as to what it has on the cards for the event. Google's latest software updates, including Android and WearOS, are all but confirmed to make a showing this year, if previous years were any indication. Android 14, the latest version of the mobile operating system, was already previewed to developers in February, so it's safe to bet it'll be at the event.

The viral popularity of OpenAI's ChatGPT has also put artificial intelligence (AI) tools in the spotlight, so the expectations are that Google would want to devote some time talking about its own AI innovations, including its experimental chatbot Bard.

As for hardware, the Pixel 7A, a more affordable variant of the Pixel 7, could make an appearance. There's also a chance Google might unveil its long-rumoured foldable, along with its forthcoming tablet, which could compete with the iPad, as The Verge points out.

Those interested can now register for the event via its official website to stay up to date on the latest news and have the chance to create their own developer profiles.
