Gemini Mobile App Now Available in Singapore
Google is finally expanding the Gemini app in more countries and languages after first launching it in English in February.
The search giant announced on Wednesday, 1 May that the app is now available in Singapore, letting you get help from the artificial intelligence (AI) assistant while you're on-the-go.
With the Gemini app, you can type, talk or add an image to receive help from Gemini. You can, for example, take a photo of your flat tire and ask for instructions how to change it from the AI assistant. Alternatively, you can ask for advice on how to write a thank you note.
If you're using an Android device, you can download the Gemini app via the Google Play Store or opt-in through Google Assistant. After which, you'll be able to access the AI assistant anywhere you normally activate Google Assistant, such as hitting the power button or saying, "Hey Google".
Many Google Assistant voice features will be available through the Gemini app, like setting timers, making calls and controlling your smart home devices, with more to come in the future.
Meanwhile, if you're on iOS, you can download the Google app on the App Store and access the AI assistant from there via the Gemini tab.
Google is additionally expanding Extensions to the countries and languages Gemini currently supports. Extensions allow Gemini to access relevant information from other Google apps and services you use and use that information to better provide you with what you need. If you and your friends are planning a trip, for example, you can ask Gemini to find dates from Gmail that work for everyone, then look up flight and hotel information based on those dates.
You'll always have control of your privacy settings when deciding how you want to use these Extensions, and you can turn them off at any time.
Among the languages Gemini currently supports include Chinese English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish.
There's also a new way to access Gemini on desktop. You simply open Chrome, type @gemini followed by your prompt in the address bar, and gemini.google.com launches with a response to your prompt ready to go.
Google said the expansion of Gemini marks an important first step in its development of a true AI assistant, one that's conversational, multimodal and helpful.
