When you're not in the mood, the last thing you probably want to do is strike up a chat with your Grab driver. Thankfully, Grab now lets you have conversation-free commutes with the addition of the new "Quiet Ride" option.

“You asked for a bit of quiet, we heard you loud and clear. Quiet Ride is now available in Singapore! 😌” the ride-hailing giant wrote in a Facebook post promoting the new option.
To enjoy a ride with minimal conversations, tap the three-dotted menu icon after keying in your pick-up and destination points and selecting your GrabCar. There, you'll find the option to toggle "Quiet Ride". In case it doesn't show, try updating your Grab app to the latest version. Once you've toggled the option and booked your ride, your driver will be informed of your request. You should also receive a chat message in your Grab app that you’ve enabled the option.
Only "essential conversations" like confirming your name and trip details will happen. Drivers, however, can still choose to play music or the radio as well as answer phone calls.

Toggling the option once also makes it your default for future rides you book. So if ever you're in a chatty mood, don't forget to visit the three-dotted menu again.
Grab said the option is not currently available for GrabShare and GrabHitch.
“Quiet Ride” was first tested in different markets last year before being made available in Singapore. Grab silently rolled out the option as part of a trial in the Philippines in April 2022, and later ran a similar trial in Malaysia in October.
The Asian super-app isn’t the first ride-hailing service to introduce such an option for riders. Uber in 2019 similarly started giving riders in the U.S. a “Quiet Mode” option, which allows them to specify the level of conversation they would like to have with their drivers. The option does cost a bit more than the standard ride as it was limited to Uber’s premium options, Uber Black or Uber Black SUV.
