Amazon has removed a hazardous e-bike battery from sale after it caused a house fire in Surrey, local authorities said.

The fire broke out while the unit pack power battery from a converted e-bike was charging, according to Surrey Fire & Rescue Service (SFRS).
Matt Perry, fire investigation officer at SFRS, said the incident highlighted the dangers of unsafe e-bike batteries.
Following the fire, SFRS worked with Surrey Trading Standards to assess the product. Their findings led Amazon to take action and remove the battery from its store.
Perry welcomed the decision and urged consumers to be cautious when purchasing batteries.
Amanda Poole, assistant director for Trading Standards at Surrey County Council, warned that unsafe lithium-ion batteries pose a serious fire risk. She advised consumers to check that batteries and chargers meet UK safety standards and to be wary of cheap or unbranded products sold online.
Amazon stated that safety was its top priority. The company requires e-mobility battery sellers to provide documented evidence that their products are tested and comply with national regulations.
A spokesperson said Amazon removes products when necessary, contacts sellers and manufacturers for further information, and works with government agencies to protect customers.
