Amazon has agreed to acquire Bee, a San Francisco-based startup that makes an artificial intelligence-enabled bracelet designed to transcribe and summarise conversations.

The wristband, priced at USD 50, can listen to audio, generate summaries, create to-do lists and perform other tasks. The deal was confirmed by Amazon on Tuesday after Bee Chief Executive Officer and co-founder Maria de Lourdes Zollo announced it in a LinkedIn post.
Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed, and the deal has not yet closed.

An Amazon spokesperson said the company will collaborate with Bee to give users more control over the device, which automatically transcribes audio but includes a mute function.
Zollo said in her post that Bee was built on the idea of making AI truly personal, with technology that learns and evolves with the user.
Bee was founded in 2022.
Zollo also thanked Amazon Devices executive Panos Panay in her post, suggesting Bee will become part of his group once the acquisition is finalised.
Amazon previously entered the wearables market with its Halo health trackers, which were discontinued in 2023. The company also offers smart glasses under its Echo brand, featuring its Alexa virtual assistant.
The acquisition comes amid growing interest in AI wearables. OpenAI recently acquired io, a startup founded by former Apple designer Jony Ive, for about USD 6.5 billion. Other startups have also launched AI wearable devices, though with varied success.
Much of Amazon’s AI development is currently being led by its Amazon Web Services division.
