YouTube Unveils Plans To Roll Out AI-Powered Tools for Creators
Updated: Dec 18, 2023
YouTube is looking to artificial intelligence (AI) tech to empower creators.
The video-sharing giant at its Made on YouTube event on Thursday, 21 September announced plans to roll out AI-powered tools that would help creators "push the bounds of creative expression".
One of which is called Dream Screen, a tool that gives creators the ability to create and apply AI-generated image or video backgrounds on their Shorts by simply typing a prompt. TikTok has a similar feature built into its app, which creators use to add visual elements into their videos.
"With Dream Screen, creators will be able to generate new, fantastic settings for their Shorts that are only limited by what they can imagine," wrote YouTube. "We'll start to introduce Dream Screen to select creators before we roll out more broadly next year."
In addition, YouTube Studio, the hub where creators can manage their videos and channels, is getting AI-insights. The new tool can help creators brainstorm for content, providing video ideas and draft outlines. The insights are personalised for each channel, based on what audiences are already watching on YouTube.
"We’ve been testing a version of AI-powered tools in YouTube Studio with creators and more than 70 percent of those surveyed said it’s helped them develop and test ideas for videos," said YouTube.
Other AI-powered tools that are on the way include automatic dubbing with Aloud and assistive search in Creator Music.
YouTube is also launching a new mobile editing app called YouTube Create. The app is meant to make the production of both long- and short-form videos easier. It includes a suite of video editing tools like precision editing and trimming, automatic captioning, voiceover capabilities and access to filters, effects, transitions and royalty-free music with beat matching technology.
The app is currently in beta on Android in select markets and would be available for free when it launches.
