Xpeng Initiates Robotaxi Mass Production in Guangzhou

Chinese electric vehicle maker Xpeng has commenced mass production of its inaugural robotaxi model at its Guangzhou headquarters. The organisation aims for fully driverless operations by early 2027.

The new robotaxi is built on Xpeng’s GX platform. It represents China’s first “production-ready, pre-assembled robotaxi model developed entirely with in-house technologies,” the company stated.

Xpeng plans to begin pilot robotaxi operations in the second half of the year. These pilot operations are part of Xpeng's accelerating shift towards driverless vehicles and humanoid robotics, a strategy influenced by intensifying competition within the world’s largest auto market.


President Brian Gu indicated that Xpeng expects to produce hundreds to thousands of robotaxis over the next 12 to 18 months. The electric vehicle producer is accelerating its shift towards driverless vehicles and humanoid robotics.
