Xiaomi has launched its new 12T series of smartphones, an update to its current flagship lineup with much improved specs. The series consists of the standard 12T and the higher-end 12T Pro, both of which sport flagship-class internals but with massive differences between them.
Let's start with what they have in common. For starters, both devices have a 6.67-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 900 nits. The series includes under-display fingerprint sensors and dual-stereo speakers that support Dolby Atmos, though the Pro seems to have the upper hand when it comes to audio as it also has tuning by Harman Kardon.
Only the Pro model supported 120W charging for the previous lineup but for the 12T series, both variants get the ludicrously fast charging speed — wireless charging is still missing from the phones despite being flagship products. The phones also get beefier 5,000mAh batteries and a claimed charging time of just 19 minutes.
Under the hood is where you can find the differences between the devices. The vanilla Xiaomi 12T runs on a MediaTek Dimenstiy 8100-Ultra chipset while the 12T Pro features the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus SoC from Qualcomm. Both models are equipped with 256GB of non-expandable storage; the 12T only has 8GB of RAM while the Pro device can be configured up to 12GB.
The standard and Pro variants both rock three-camera setups on the back with a 108MP and 200MP sensor respectively as their primary shooter. As for the secondary cameras. they have an 8MP ultra-wide and a 2MP macro lens. Up front, the punch hole cutout houses a 20MP selfie camera on both smartphones.
Connectivity-wise, the series supports Wi-Fi 6, NFC, 5G and, oddly enough, the 12T is compatible with Bluetooth 5.3 while the more expensive Pro version only supports Bluetooth 5.2. The lineup comes in blue, silver, and black colour options.
The Xiaomi 12T and 12T Pro will be available for purchase in Malaysia starting on 13 October, although you can already pre-order now on the brand's Shopee and Lazada pages. The 12T with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage retails for RM1,999 while the 12T Pro is priced at RM2,699 for the 8GB+256GB configuration and RM2,999 for the 12GB+256GB version.
