Vietnam Orders Netflix to Cease Advertising and Distributing Games

Vietnam has ordered Netflix to cease advertising and distributing its games in the country. The order is due to Netflix not having obtained the necessary license for its gaming services. Netflix has been instructed to comply with Vietnamese regulations by April 25.

Vietnam has issued an order to Netflix Inc, instructing the streaming giant to halt its advertising and distribution of games within the country. The move comes as Netflix has yet to obtain the necessary license for its gaming services, according to the Authority of Broadcasting and Electronic Information (ABEI), Vietnam's broadcasting authority.

In a statement posted on its website, ABEI stated, "Vietnam demands Netflix comply with the Vietnamese regulations on game online services." The authority further directed Netflix to cease advertising and publishing its video games on the Netflix application, as well as on Appstore Vietnam and Google Play store Vietnam, by April 25.

This is not the first time that the Vietnamese government has taken action against Netflix. The streaming platform has previously been instructed to block access to certain content within the country.

Netflix made its foray into the gaming industry in November 2021 with the launch of Netflix games on mobile phones. The company has been expanding its offerings beyond streaming movies and TV shows, aiming to tap into the lucrative gaming market.

At the time of writing, Netflix has not responded to requests for comment regarding the order from Vietnam's broadcasting authority.
