Tiger Beer Unveils Puffer Jacket With a Built-In Cooling System

You might soon be able to rock a puffer jacket in the tropical heat.
Tiger Beer announced it's coming out with the world’s first puffer jacket that features a built-in, beer-powered cooling system, letting you enjoy a hot fashion staple regardless of the weather.
Dubbed the Tiger Summer Puffer, the jacket was created in collaboration with fashion designer Izzy Du and Japanese tech innovation group Whatever Co.
It incorporates an innovative cooling system that uses cold beer to chill water, which is then pumped around the your body through a network of tubes. These tubes make contact with points where your arteries are closest to your skin, cooling your body down by up to 5° Celsius in the sun.
“Inspired by the same tech that keeps astronauts cool in extreme temperatures, we tried a variety of cooling system designs, each making the jacket more effective at keeping the wearer cool for as long as possible," Masashi Kawamura, Chief Technology Officer of Whatever Co., the company behind the jacket's cooling system.
"We tested various tube placements, tube materials, water tank designs and electronic wiring before landing on the final mechanism," he explained. "We even had a trial run where the jacket became too cold to wear and we had to tune it down to get it to the right temperature."
The jacket also features an unmistakable silhouette and a bright orange hue, which is supposed to be a homage to a tiger and the beer maker's brand colours.
"Making a puffer for the summer is an external expression of how refreshing and cool it feels to drink a Tiger," said Du. "I started with the feeling of opening an ice-cold can of beer and playing with the colours of Tiger Beer, before imbuing the aesthetics of the puffer with a new function."
Du will be debuting the jacket as part of her current collection at a pop-up in Paris from the 1 to 3 October 2023 during Paris Fashion Week. After that, Tiger Beer will be bringing it to Asia ZoukOut, Asia's longest-running dance music festival, which is being held in Singapore in December 2023. The festival provides you a good opportunity to experience the jacket for yourself in the tropical heat of the island-nation.
The Tiger Summer Puffer is expected to release sometime in spring 2024.
