SpaceX’s satellite internet service Starlink launched in Bangladesh on Tuesday, offering high-speed, low-latency internet across the country.

The move comes as the South Asian nation seeks to ensure reliable connectivity amid political instability.

Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus, who has led the interim government since Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina fled to India last year, said the service offers a solution that cannot be disrupted by future unrest.

Starlink announced the launch on X, confirming that its service is now available nationwide.

Monthly packages start at 4,200 taka (USD 35), with a one-time equipment fee of 47,000 taka.

Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, an aide to Yunus, said the service offers a sustainable alternative for premium customers seeking high-quality internet.

Internet and text messaging services were suspended during widespread protests in July 2024, prompting the government to explore more resilient infrastructure.

Starlink, owned by tech entrepreneur Elon Musk’s SpaceX, now operates in more than 70 countries and is expanding in emerging markets, including India.
