Sony Unveils Pressure-Free Headphones Designed For Runners
Sony's new model of headphones are designed with runners and athletes in mind, boasting a range of nifty features that'll help them go the distance.
The Float Run, as the Japanese tech giant calls it, are a pair of off-ear headphones with a pressure-free design that position the speakers near your ears without actually touching it. What's good about the design is that it leaves your ears uncovered, while delivering a rich sound experience.
Sony touts that the design is so comfortable it'll save you from having to worry about feeling pressure or stuffiness on your ears during your runs. It's also very lightweight, weighing only about 33 grams. In spite of that, it won't fall off your head no matter how fast or vigorously you run. The headphones come with a flexible neckband that secures them in place, even if you have sunglasses or a hat on.
As for the listening experience itself, the Float Run comes equipped with 16mm drivers and precise tuning, which combined with the off-ear style gives a wider and more natural sound. The open-type design eliminates echo of the sounds your body might produce, such as footsteps or heavy breathing and allows in ambient sound. Sony says music naturally mixes with ambient sound to help you stay aware of your surroundings at all times.
Other features include a IPX4 water resistant rating so it's safe from sweat or rain damage, built-in controls for playback and voice assistant and a high-quality microphone. They charge over USB-C, with a battery life of up to 10 hours. In case you're in a hurry, a 10 minute charge can deliver up to an hour of playtime.
The Float Run also ships with a carrying pouch to keep the supplied charging cable and headphones together and protected. It'll be available at selected retail shops and online stores from mid-February 2023 at a retail price of S$199 inclusive of GST. You also have the chance to score S$15 Decathlon e-vouchers if you purchase the headphones during the launch period.
