Sony will increase the price of its PlayStation 5 consoles in the United States by about USD 50 starting Thursday, citing uncertainty over U.S. tariffs and a sluggish recovery in the videogame market.

The most expensive model, the PS5 Pro, will now retail for USD 749.99, according to a company blog post published Wednesday.
All three versions of the PlayStation 5 will see similar price hikes. The company did not announce any changes to accessory prices or pricing in other markets.
The move follows U.S. President Donald Trump's announcement of broad tariffs on imports from countries including China and Japan, raising concerns over supply chain disruptions and rising material costs.

Sony previously raised console prices in several European countries in April. Microsoft’s Xbox followed with price increases across the U.S., Europe, Australia and the UK in May.
Industry analysts had expected consoles to drive growth in the videogame sector this year, with major releases such as Take-Two Interactive’s "Grand Theft Auto VI" and Nintendo’s upcoming Switch 2.
However, the delay of "GTA VI" to next year and rising console prices have raised questions about the pace of market expansion.
