Sony Launches Xperia 1V and Xperia 10V Smartphones
Updated: Dec 19, 2023
Sony's Xperia family grows larger with the new flagship Xperia 1V and mid-range Xperia 10V.
The Xperia 1V is said to be the world's first flagship smartphone that features a CMOS image sensor with two-layer Transistor Pixel. The sensor, which is a 52MP f/1.9 one, is the device's primary sensor and features a new "Exmor T for mobile" design to deliver images with more vivid and rich colour even in dark locations. The Japanese electronics giant touts that because the sensor is larger, its able to produce up to two times better low light shots than its predecessor, the Xperia 1IV.
The 1V's primary sensor is joined by a 12MP f/2.3 telephoto sensor with continuous optical zoom between 3.5x and 5.2x and a 12MP f/2.2 ultra-wide sensor. The camera system also supports 4K video recording.
The device is powered by a 5,000mAh battery that supports 30W wired charging. Sony says the battery can last for up to 20 hours of continuous video playback and can juice up to 50% in 30 minutes. The battery also supports wireless charging, though it's unclear how fast it is.
There's also a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset and 12GB of RAM under the hood. Sony adds the new chipset improves power efficiency by up to 40% compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 in last year's Xperia 1IV.
For display, it flaunts 6.5-inch 4K OLED panel with a refresh rate of 120Hz.
Other features include 5G connectivity, stereo speakers and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor.
The Xperia 1V comes in two colour options: Black and Khaki Green. Pre-orders for the Black model are open until 30 June at a retail price of S$1,969 inclusive of GST.
Alongside the Xperia 1V, Sony also launched the Xperia 10V, a more affordable release that's good for on-the-go entertainment.
The Xperia 10V, according to Sony, is the lightest 5G smartphone, weighing at 159g, also packing a 5,000mAh battery that can last continuous video playback for approximately 34 hours. The entertainment experience is further enhanced by the stereo speakers at the front of the phone and the 6.1-inch, FHD+ OLED panel that's up to 1.5x brighter than the previous model. The device also comes equipped with a triple-rear camera system and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
The Xperia 10V similarly comes in two colour options: Lavender and Black. Pre-orders are open until 30 June at a retail price of S$679 inclusive of GST.
