The site is the first of a total of eleven 180 kW and 360 kW direct-current (DC) chargers that the partnership plans to build across eleven different Shell stations in Thailand. The goal of this joint initiative is to enable electric vehicle (EV) drivers to enjoy seamless emission-free travel within the country.

Once the entire network is operational sometime in the first half of next year, it'll then connect to a wider regional Shell network of six locations in Malaysia and three locations in Singapore, spanning a distance of more than 2,200km between three Southeast Asian nations.

"At Porsche, we remain committed to driving the future of mobility in Southeast Asia, as we reaffirm our ambition to become net carbon neutral across our value chain in 2030," said Dr. Henrik Dreier, Director New Business Fields of Porsche Asia Pacific. "Our long-standing and trusted partnership with Shell now reaches a new milestone, as we open up the first Shell High Performance Charging site here in Bangkok."

The partnership touts the 180 kW and 360 kW chargers that they plan to build will provide drivers with the fastest charging capacity in Thailand. At 180 kW charging speeds, the all-electric Porsche Taycan, for example, can go from a 0% State of Charge (SoC) to 80% in around 30 minutes. Charging speeds are even faster at 270 kW, which is the maximum rate the vehicle can be charged, with the charging time reduced to about 22 minutes.

When all the networks go live, the initiative becomes the longest emission-free driving route in Southeast Asia, giving EV drivers the peace of mind to travel long distances without having to worry about whether or not they'll be able to charge their vehicles.

"EV drivers are looking for a charging experience that is faster and more convenient, and for ways to reduce emissions from their driving," said Amr Adel, Senior Vice President for Shell Mobility Asia. "With the world’s borders opening further, drivers are also looking for more reliable charging points, especially for long distances across countries."

New Taycan owners in Thailand benefit from a complimentary Platinum membership for three years in which they can avail of a 50% discount on the Pay-Per-Use (PPU) rate, free pre-reservation up to an hour before arriving at any Shell HPC site and 10,000 Shell GO+ points for redeeming deals on Shell products and services.

The Sharge and ParkEasy apps in Thailand and Malaysia, meanwhile, will integrate with the network, allowing drivers to access Shell HPC and Porsche Destination Charging sites in both countries.

All electric vehicle owners in Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand can also use the Shell HPC Network via a PPU rate or subscribe to a membership plan according to preferential rates.
