Samsung has released a new update for its Galaxy phones, specifically targeting a problem related to screen burn-in. The latest update, version 6.1 of the One UI, addresses an issue that arose with the previous release, which reduced burn-in protection for the OLED displays on these devices.

OLED screens are known to be susceptible to burn-in if static elements are displayed for prolonged periods. The previous update, One UI 6.0, was rolled out in November 2023 and inadvertently introduced a change that could potentially lead to burn-in.

The problem stemmed from the status bar at the top of the Galaxy display, where elements such as the time, Wi-Fi strength, and battery life were no longer moving. Previously, these features would subtly shift on the screen to prevent burn-in, a practice that users rarely noticed. However, with the absence of this movement, concerns arose about the possibility of permanent burnt-in letters and icons on the status bar.

Fortunately, the new One UI 6.1 update has rectified this issue. According to reports from 9to5Google, the lack of movement in the status bar icons was first observed on the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra. However, users with this model have now confirmed that the icons are once again gently shifting over time, indicating that the problem has been resolved.

Samsung did not provide any official comment on this matter, leaving room for speculation about whether there was an alternative solution all along. Nevertheless, the fact that the issue has been addressed in the latest update brings reassurance to Galaxy phone users.

In addition to fixing the burn-in problem, the update also introduces new Galaxy AI features to various Samsung devices, including the Galaxy S23, Z Fold5, Z Flip5, and Tab S9. These features offer significant enhancements to the capabilities of these products.

It is crucial for Samsung to address issues like screen burn-in to ensure the optimal performance and longevity of their devices. With the release of the One UI 6.1 update, users can now enjoy the new AI features while having peace of mind regarding the screen burn issue.
