China has unveiled the world’s first fully automated AI-based processor chip design system, named Qi Meng, developed by the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

The system enables end-to-end automation of chip design, from hardware architecture to foundational software, and reportedly matches human expert performance across several key metrics.
Qi Meng uses large AI models to automatically generate CPUs and configure essential software components. These include operating systems, code translators, and high-performance operator libraries.
According to the developers, Qi Meng successfully completed the world’s first fully automated 32-bit RISC-V CPU. The chip, which matches the performance of an Intel 486 processor and contains over four million logic gates, was designed in just five hours.
