Netflix announced Wednesday that its advertising-supported tier has reached 94 million users, up from 70 million in November.

The surge comes as the streaming giant’s lower-priced plan gains traction during a period of global economic uncertainty.
With more than 300 million subscribers worldwide, Netflix reported strong spending across all its subscription tiers. In April, the company said it had not observed any major changes in consumer spending habits.
The update helped ease investor concerns that shifting U.S. trade policies and economic instability might lead to reduced discretionary spending on entertainment.
Netflix revealed last month that 55% of new sign-ups in markets where the ad-supported plan is available chose that tier.
To expand its global reach, Netflix introduced enhanced language features earlier this year, including more dubbing and subtitle options for television viewers.
Many of the platform’s most popular titles are foreign-made, such as the South Korean drama "Squid Game" and the Spanish series "Money Heist."
However, the future of such content faced uncertainty after former U.S. President Donald Trump proposed a 100% tariff on foreign-made films in May to support domestic productions.
This move raised concerns for media companies like Netflix, which rely heavily on international filming locations.
