The event showcased advancements in generative AI that will enhance Meta's devices and social media platforms like Instagram.

One of the highlights was the introduction of Orion, touted as the most advanced AR glasses globally, weighing less than 100 grams. These glasses enable wearers to view virtual objects overlaid on their surroundings, access messaging apps like WhatsApp and Messenger, make video calls, and obtain information about objects in their line of sight. Meta is actively working on a consumer version of Orion powered by a custom chip.

Meta also introduced the Quest 3S mixed reality headset, available in two storage sizes - a smaller version priced at US$299.99 and a larger one at $399.99. Scheduled for release on October 15, the headset offers an affordable option for users. Additionally, Meta reduced the price of its 512GB Meta Quest 3 to US$499.99 from US$649.99, while discontinuing older models like Quest 2 and Quest Pro.

In a move towards innovation, Meta unveiled its first open-source multimodal AI model, Llama 3.2, capable of generating content from both image and text prompts. The company also announced lightweight versions of Llama 3.2 designed to run efficiently on mobile devices, catering to a wider user base.

Furthermore, Meta AI's chatbot will now support voice interactions, allowing users to choose celebrity voices like Judi Dench and John Cena. This feature is accessible across Meta AI platforms including Facebook, Messenger, WhatsApp, and Instagram direct messages, enhancing user experience and engagement.

Meta is enhancing its Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses with AI functionalities such as reminders, QR code and phone number scanning through voice commands. The company plans to introduce AI video capabilities and real-time language translation to the smart glasses later this year, further integrating advanced technologies into everyday interactions.
