Meta has delayed the international expansion of its Ray-Ban Display glasses, citing strong demand in the United States and a constrained supply. The company will prioritise fulfilling US orders while re-evaluating its approach to international availability.

The augmented reality smart glasses were originally slated for rollout in the UK, France, Italy, and Canada starting early this year. Meta described the product as a "first-of-its-kind product" with extremely limited inventory.

Interest in the product has been overwhelming since its launch last fall, with product waitlists now extending well into 2026.

Developed with EssilorLuxottica's Ray-Ban, the Ray-Ban Meta glasses enable wearers to take photos, stream content, and interact with an artificial intelligence assistant. EssilorLuxottica stated in October it would accelerate production capacity for its smart glasses business.

Meta sold 15,000 units of its Ray-Ban Display glasses in its first quarter of sales and captured 6% market share in the category, said Francisco Jeronimo, Vice President, Data and Analytics, Devices at IDC EMEA.

The social media organisation also announced new features for the glasses and its Meta Neural Band wrist device at the annual Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

New capabilities include a teleprompter feature for the glasses, allowing consumers to read notes and scroll using the wristband. Pedestrian navigation is expanding to four additional cities: Denver, Las Vegas, Portland, and Salt Lake City, bringing the total to 32.

  • Meta has postponed the global launch of Ray-Ban Display glasses.

  • The decision stems from robust US demand and a restricted supply.

  • Product waitlists for the glasses currently stretch until 2026.
