The social media giant today announced WhatsApp Chat, an official chat that helps you stay up to date on all the latest tips, tricks, product and privacy features on the messaging app.

The chat is muted by default, and you can decide whether you'd like to keep receiving messages or not. You'll know that's the chat when you see that the contact is WhatsApp with a green, verified check mark. It also indicates that messages are being sent from an official account of WhatsApp.

WhatsApp in an Instagram post teased that the first chat is about two-step verification.

The addition of WhatsApp chat should help you make the most of your WhatsApp experience, bringing all the things you might need to know to better connect with your friends and family all in a single place. The chat might prove even more useful now as WhatsApp continues to roll out new features on a regular basis.

The latest of which allows you to send messages to whoever you want without first having to save their contact details. You can do so the same way you might reach out to a contact. You simply click on the new message button on your home screen, and type the number in the search bar. The number should appear under the category "Not in your contacts". There should also be a "chat" option, which you hit to start a new conversation.

WhatsApp said it's already begun rolling out the feature to users, so you should be able to access it soon. If it's still not available, try updating your app to the latest version.

Previously, WhatsApp also launched Channels, a new feature that allows you to receive updates from public personalities and organisations.
