LG Introduces 1.34KG 17-inch Laptop, Ultrawide Monitors And More

LG is known for their home appliances, televisions and fridges and the likes, but some of their latest electronic devices look set to make a splash. Let’s take a look at the LG Gram laptop range first.

The flagship LG gram 17 (SG$2,799) squeezes a 17-inch IPS LCD screen into the form factor of a 15.6-inch laptop. So not only do you have more screen real estate, you get it at the added benefit of not having a bigger laptop to carry around.

Add on the fact that the LG gram 17 only weighs 1,340 grams? Even the biggest MacBook Pro with a screen size of 15.4 inches weighs 1.8kg. The 17 inch model runs on the 8th generation Intel core i7 processor. 8GB DDR4 RAM and the Intel UHD Graphics 620, so maybe stick to light web browsing and entertainment options.

The range also has 15 (starting from SG$2,199), 14 (starting from SG$1,999) and 13 inch (SG$1,899) models with varying specs.

If you’re more of a desktop person, fret not, LG has got you covered with their range of monitors.

If your work requires you to have multiple windows open, the LG 49WL95C (available August 2019) is a 32:9 Curved Dual QHD UltraWide monitor that provides the screen space of two 27” monitors. Radeon FreeSync is included to minimise screen tear and stuttering, along with HDR10 support.

For creatives who require screens with the best colour reproduction and accuracy, LG has the 34WK95U UltraWide (SG$2,399) and 32UL950 UltraFine (SG$2,099) monitors, powered by their proprietary Nano IPS panel technology. This technology results in 98% DCI-P3 coverage and 135% sRGB, with beautiful colours, blacks and brightness.

Starting LG’s 2019 TV lineup with showing off the world’s first 88-inch 8K UHD television is certainly eye catching. While it isn’t available yet, the people who want the best and most pixels money can buy will definitely be keeping this on their radar.

The new 2019 TVs gets a few added features like LG’s ThinQ AI and new processors that can even up-mix two-channel stereo sound to replicate virtual 5.1 surround sound. I had a listen and even the sound from a single front-firing sound bar was impressive, so if you have a proper home speaker system installed, this is a great feature to have.

Speaking of soundbars, the LG 2019 soundbar lineup has the outstanding SL9YG (available from June 2019, SG$1,699) model, which can be utilised in two ways: front-firing or top-firing. The gyroscopes in the soundbar detects the orientation and automatically tunes the sound depending on whether it’s sitting on a flat surface or mounted to a wall.
