Lenovo Unveils First Rollable Laptop Screen at CES 2025
Lenovo has taken the tech world by storm at CES 2025 with the introduction of the world's first rollable laptop screen. This innovative device, named the ThinkBook Plus Gen 6 Rollable AI PC, boasts a 14-inch OLED display that seamlessly extends to a 16.7-inch screen with just the press of a button. The screen elegantly rolls out from underneath the keyboard, transforming the laptop into a device with a remarkably tall display.
The extended portrait display is ideal for tasks such as document work and coding, offering a unique user experience. Windows 11 effortlessly adjusts to the new screen resolution as soon as the additional display space is activated. Lenovo has also developed dedicated software that enables users to utilise the lower part of the display as a virtual second screen, effectively treating the extended screen as two separate displays.
During hands-on tests at CES in Las Vegas, concerns about the laptop's stability with the extended display were quickly dispelled. Despite its unconventional appearance, the device remained stable even during heavy typing, reassuring users of its practicality. The absence of touchscreen functionality contributes to the laptop's balance, with Lenovo considering the addition of a touchscreen layer to the rollable screen in the future.
However, this cutting-edge technology comes at a premium price, with the ThinkBook Plus Gen 6 Rollable AI PC set to start at $3,499 when it hits the market in Q1.
In addition to the rollable laptop, Lenovo also unveiled the Lenovo Yoga Slim 9i at CES. This sleek laptop boasts a 14-inch display with an impressive 98% screen-to-body ratio, offering users an immersive viewing experience. The laptop integrates a 32-megapixel webcam beneath the display, eliminating the need for a dedicated housing and ensuring a seamless design.
The Lenovo Yoga Slim 9i features a stunning 14-inch 4K OLED display with a peak brightness of 750 nits, covering 100% of the sRGB/P3/Adobe color palettes. Powered by an Intel Core Ultra 7 258V processor, with up to 32GB of RAM and up to 1TB of SSD storage, this ultrathin laptop delivers exceptional performance. Despite its slim profile, the laptop includes Wi-Fi 7 connectivity and promises over 10 hours of battery life from its 75Wh cell.
Priced at $1,849, the Lenovo Yoga Slim 9i is expected to be available starting in February, offering users a premium computing experience with a focus on display quality and performance.
Lenovo's latest laptop, the ThinkPad X9 15 Aura Edition, marks a potential shift away from the iconic trackpoint technology. The absence of the trackpoint in this model suggests a strategic move towards catering to a younger generation of laptop users who prefer touchpads and touchscreens over the traditional pointing device.
