Future Pro iPhone models are expected to feature a significant screen redesign, with reports indicating a major visual overhaul for the display. This change could include the flood illuminator, a component essential for Face ID, being hidden beneath the screen. Such a development would account for a smaller or shrunken Dynamic Island.

Separate reports suggest a striking upgrade in display brightness for the iPhone 18 line, promising enhanced visuals. The iPhone 18 Pro Max is also anticipated to receive a brighter display, aligning with these broader improvements.

A Chinese supplier, BOE, reportedly faces challenges in manufacturing panels for the iPhone 18 due to Apple's exceptionally high brightness requirements. This information, posted by leaker Instant Digital on Weibo, indicates that the iPhone 18 is poised to offer greater brightness than current models.

The current iPhone 17 features a Super Retina XDR display, providing a typical brightness of 1,000 nits, a peak HDR brightness of 1,600 nits, and a peak outdoor brightness of 3,000 nits. The iPhone 18 is expected to exceed these levels, based on the reported supplier experience.

Given that the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro share similar brightness levels, it is logical that the iPhone 18 Pro may also receive a brighter screen. It appears unlikely that the standard iPhone 18 display would surpass that of the iPhone 18 Pro.

Further information suggests the iPhone 18 Pro Max could incorporate Samsung’s LTPO Plus display technology. This advancement is expected to deliver brighter visuals while simultaneously improving energy efficiency.

LTPO Plus displays are engineered for reduced power consumption, which aligns with Apple’s objectives for enhancing battery life and promoting sustainability. While fully under-display sensors remain a future ambition, this technology represents a meaningful step toward superior screen quality and extended usage on a single charge.

The processor anticipated for the next iPhone, the A20 Pro chip, is expected to utilise 2-nanometer architecture, offering greater energy efficiency. A switch to an Apple C-Series modem instead of a Qualcomm modem is also predicted, aiming for more seamless performance.

The iPhone 18 Pro Max is also reported to feature under-display Face ID, a technological milestone. This aligns with other information suggesting a reduction in the Dynamic Island's size.

Full under-display Face ID presents ongoing challenges, as certain components, such as the infrared camera, still require visible placement. However, Apple's cautious approach aims to ensure biometric security and performance are not compromised, even as design boundaries are pushed.

It is reported that these significant changes, destined for the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, will not extend to the standard iPhone 18 or the iPhone Air 2. The regular iPhone models have historically received Dynamic Island features a year after their introduction on Pro models.

  • iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max are expected to feature a significant visual redesign, including under-display Face ID.

  • The Dynamic Island is anticipated to shrink due to hidden Face ID components.

  • The iPhone 18 line, including Pro models, is projected to have significantly brighter displays.
