Intel Debuts Core Ultra 200S Series Desktop CPUs With New Architecture
Intel’s new flagship desktop processors are here.
The silicon giant announced its new Core Ultra 200S series, which delivers more performance per watt and runs more efficiently than the previous generation, is arriving on 24 October.
The series includes five desktop processors, all equipped with up to eight next-gen Performance-cores (P-cores), which are currently the fastest for desktop PCs, and up to 16 next-gen Efficiency-cores (E-cores), resulting in significant performance gains in multi-threaded workloads versus the previous generation.
These new processors are also Intel’s first enthusiast desktop CPUs with a built-in neural processing unit (NPU) for handling artificial intelligence (AI) tasks.
Intel touts that the Core Ultra 200s reduce power usage while maintaining strong computing and gaming performance. They can reduce package power by up to 40% and slash up to 165W system power while gaming.
What’s more, the new processors are also cooler and quieter, as well as have the latest media support thanks to the integrated Xe-LPG graphics architecture.
Intel also said the processors can deliver up to 50% faster performance in AI-enabled creator applications versus the flagship processors of other brands. The NPU can additionally offload different AI functions, such as freeing up discrete GPUs for improved frame rates in gaming and reducing power usage in AI workloads.
Intel added that the new flagship series uses the new Intel 800 Series chipset, which extends platform compatibility with up to 24 PCIe 4.0 lanes, up to 8 SATA 3.0 ports, and up to 10 USB 3.2 ports, for more connectivity options. On top of these, the series with 20 CPU PCIe 5.0 lanes, 4 CPU PCIe 4.0 lanes, support for 2 integrated Thunderbolt 4 ports, Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 support.
The series also debuts new overclocking controls with top turbo frequency in 16.6 MHz steps for P-cores and E-cores.
With up to 36 platform TOPS, the Intel Core Ultra 200S series is the company’s best and most power-efficient desktop CPUs to date.
