Indonesia has permitted Elon Musk’s Grok chatbot to resume services, lifting a ban related to sexualised images on the application. The decision follows a commitment from X Corp to enhance compliance with Indonesian regulations.

Indonesia had suspended Grok's operations three weeks ago, citing potential risks from artificial intelligence-generated pornographic content. The nation was the first to deny access to the AI tool.
A statement from the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs indicated that the government is processing the resumption of access. This resumption is on a conditional basis and under strict supervision.

Governments and regulatory bodies across Europe and Asia have previously criticised sexualised content generated by Grok. Several of these entities have initiated inquiries.
Senior ministry official Alexander Sabar stated that Grok services are conditionally resuming after X Corp submitted a written commitment. This commitment outlines concrete steps for service improvement and abuse prevention, forming the basis for ongoing evaluation and supervision.
Mr Sabar added that X had implemented a number of layered measures to address the misuse of Grok services. These measures will undergo continuous verification.
