India Advances Electronics Manufacturing with New Projects

The Indian government has approved a first batch of seven projects, worth over 55 billion rupees (USD 625.75 million), to boost domestic manufacturing of electronics components. This initiative aims to expand local production capacity within the country.
The electronics and IT ministry stated the approval includes four projects by Kaynes Circuits India. These projects cover multi-layer and high-density printed circuit boards, camera modules, and laminates.
Additional projects were also approved for SRF, Syrma Strategic Electronics, and Ascent Circuits.
These manufacturing projects will be located in the states of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh. They are expected to produce components worth 365.59 billion rupees, according to the ministry.
Furthermore, the projects are projected to create over 5,100 direct jobs.
The government's move seeks to reduce import dependence and strengthen supply chains for several sectors. These include defence, telecom, electric vehicles, and renewable energy.
India has been increasing efforts to boost electronics manufacturing by launching a series of incentive programs. These programs include production-linked incentive (PLI) schemes and the Semiconductor Mission.
These initiatives are designed to attract both global and domestic investors. Electronics manufacturing has gained momentum as global organisations, including Alphabet's Google and Apple, expand their supply chains away from China.
India's electronics manufacturing sector is projected to grow significantly. It is set to reach 6 trillion rupees in fiscal year 2027, up from 1.46 trillion rupees in 2022.
Brokerage Motilal Oswal shared this projection in a note.
