Honor’s New Foldable, the Magic Vs, Launching Internationally
Honor has announced that its next-generation foldable smartphone, the Magic Vs, is launching outside of China.
The former Huawei sub-brand touts the new device is the lightest foldable the industry's seen yet, weighing at only 261g when folded. It uses a hinge design that's similar to Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold, which is said to have been designed with durability and sturdiness in mind. The hinge in particular is built with aerospace-grade materials, allowing it to withstand over 400,000 folds, equivalent to more than 10 years of use at 100 folds per day.
When it comes to the display, the Magic Vs combines a 7.9-inch internal panel with a 6.45-inch cover panel, both of which can output up to 1.07 billion colours and features a DCI-P3 wide colour gamut. The larger foldable panel supports refresh rates of up to 90Hz, while the external panel goes up to 120Hz. They also include the brand's Circadian Night Display, which reduces the negative effects of blue light and is supposed to promote a comfortable viewing experience.
For cameras, the flagship foldable packs a triple-rear system consisting of a 54MP IMX800 main lens, a 50MP ultra-wide and macro lens and an 8MP 3x optical zoom lens. The system also incorporates the Honor Image Engine to produce high-quality images across different shooting scenarios. It also includes a 16MP front-facing camera.
Under the hood, the Magic Vs houses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset, along with multiple options for memory, starting with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. Honor also worked with Qualcomm to bring Dual TEE (Trusted Execution Environment) security system to the foldable, providing hardware-level protection for enhanced security and privacy.
The new smartphone is powered by a 5,000mAh battery pack that supports up to 66W wired fast-charging via
HONOR SuperCharge. The brand's fast-charging solution can supposedly fully juice the battery up within just 46 minutes.
"The HONOR Magic Vs will be our very first foldable flagship to debut in overseas markets and we are confident that it will deliver huge advancement, transforming how people all around the world use their smartphone," said George Zhao, CEO of Honor.
Local pricing and release details for the Magic Vs have yet to be revealed. In China, the foldable starts at 7,499 yuan (about S$1,450) and releases on 30 November.
