This move follows OpenAI's recent decision to resume sign-ups for its Sora video-creation tool after a temporary halt due to overwhelming demand at launch.

According to Google, Veo 2 incorporates an enhanced understanding of real-world physics and human movement nuances, resulting in improved detail and realism. Unlike other video models, Veo 2 generates fewer unwanted details, making its outputs more realistic.

Initially unveiled at the Google I/O developer conference in May, Veo 2 competes directly with OpenAI's Sora text-to-video tool. Currently, Veo 2 is accessible on Google Labs' VideoFX platform by waitlist only, offering clips limited to eight seconds and 720p resolution. Google researchers are already showcasing sample videos on social media to highlight the tool's capabilities.

Google describes Veo 2 as understanding the language of cinematography, allowing users to request specific genres, lenses, and cinematic effects for tailored results. As Veo 2 becomes more widely available, online battles between Veo and Sora are anticipated.

OpenAI launched its generative AI tool, Sora, on December 9, initially accessible to users with paid ChatGPT Plus or Pro subscriptions. However, due to high traffic, access to the tool was temporarily suspended on the same day. Account sign-ups resumed on Friday, with OpenAI yet to disclose the number of users signed up for Sora.

Sora enables users to create short, high-quality videos from written text prompts, with the option to incorporate personal visual assets for remixing. While Sora was initially introduced in February to a select group of creatives, it is now open to ChatGPT users worldwide, except in specific regions.

Users of Sora Turbo can produce videos up to 1080p resolution, 20 seconds long, in various aspect ratios. The tool's showcased videos range from photorealistic to surreal, demonstrating its diverse capabilities. Users are sharing their Sora experiments on social media, highlighting both strengths and weaknesses of the tool.

With Sora now available to the public, ChatGPT Plus subscribers can generate up to 50 Sora videos per month at 480p resolution, while ChatGPT Pro users have expanded usage options. OpenAI plans to introduce tailored pricing for different user types in the near future to ensure responsible use of the evolving video generation technology.
