Google Sets Date For Launch of Pixel 7, Pixel Watch
Google has finally set the date for the launch of the long-awaited Pixel 7 and Pixel Watch.
The search engine company giant announced on Wednesday, 7 September, that it'll be hosting the #MadeByGoogle hardware event on 6 October, where its next-generation Pixel smartphones and debut smartwatch are expected to be officially unveiled. The in-person event will be held in the Williamsburg neighbourhood of New York City.
All the products that'll be launched at the event will be available to order on the same day via GoogleStore.com.
The Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro, which were first glimpsed last May at Google's annual I/O developer conference, will be powered by second-generation Tensor chips. However, they won't be called Tensor 2, as some initially assumed. Instead, they'll reportedly be called Tensor G2, with the "G" maybe standing for "Google", as GSMArena points out.
For those unfamiliar, Tensor chips are processors designed by Google to supposedly unlock new smartphone experiences. The first iteration of the chip debuted with last year's Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. As to what this year's chips are capable of, it's not quite clear yet. But Google did say they're capable of bringing "more helpful, personalised features for photos, videos, security, and speech recognition".
The Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro will also run Android 13 out of the box.
Meanwhile, the Pixel Watch is Google's first-ever smartwatch, which will supposedly combine the company's smarts with Fitbit's health and fitness expertise. Google acquired fitness electronics maker Fitbit last year. The wearable will also run a redesigned WearOS and can seamlessly connect with Android phones and Pixel wireless earbuds.
The Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro and Pixel Watch are set to lead Google's fall product lineup and compete with Apple's new iPhone 14 and Apple Watch models.
