DJI Launches Action 2 Camera That Shoot 4K Video at 120fps

Updated: Oct 28, 2021

DJI today, 27 October, announced the launch of the Action 2 camera, the successor to 2019’s Osmo Action. The action camera touts an overhauled design, a more powerful imaging system, and some new video recording capabilities.

“We stripped our action camera down to its fundamentals and rebuilt it from the ground up to create DJI Action 2,” said Paul Pan, DJI Senior Product Line Manager. “You can configure this camera for neighbourhood walks, hang gliding off a cliff, music festivals and countless other action-packed moments.”

The DJI Action 2 flaunts a more compact design than its predecessor, making it easy to carry around for shooting in a wide variety of environments. It’s also modular, where you’re free to play around with different configurations and mounting combinations. For instance, you can attach it to your helmet when you go biking to film a first-person view of your ride.

In case you’re worried about it getting damaged, the Chinese drone maker says the Action 2 is a triple threat: dustproof, waterproof, and drop-proof. Additionally, the 1.76-inch OLED touchscreen and the additional OLED screen on the front touchscreen module are protected by Gorilla Glass. The second touchscreen attaches to the bottom of the camera unit via magnetic locks to set up selfies and vlog recordings.

These touchscreens use haptic feedback for more precise control, which allow you to navigate the camera settings quickly. You also have the option to instantly start shooting by holding the power button down.

For the camera itself, the DJI Action 2 contains a 1/1.7-inch sensor that records videos of up to 4K resolution at 120 frames per second with a super-wide 155-degree field of view. It also includes a newly implemented colour temperature sensor that helps the camera capture natural-looking results in complex lighting conditions and underwater environments.

Similar to its predecessor, it also has RockSteady 2.0, DJI’s own electronic image stabilisation technology.

DJI claims that the battery on the action camera can last up to 70 minutes on its own, 160 minutes when connected with the front touchscreen module and 180 minutes with the power module.

Other features include the ability to record in slow motion, hyperlapese and time timelapse, along with support for live streams and UVC.

The camera is compatible with a host of accessories from DJI’s ecosystem. It also connects to the DJI Mimo app on mobile devices via WiFi or Bluetooth.

The DJI Action 2 Dual-Screen Combo retails for S$779 and includes the unit itself, the front touchscreen module, a magnetic lanyard, a magnetic ball-joint adapter mount and a magnetic adapter mount.
