The Super 9 has a space shuttle-inspired cabin, carbon fiber racing seats, and an open-top design.
Chinese automaker BYD has revealed its first supercar under its premium off-road electric vehicle brand, Fangchengbao. The all-electric concept hypercar, named Super 9, boasts a bold design and promises ultimate performance and luxury. The two-seater model features a space shuttle-inspired cabin with carbon fiber racing seats and a futuristic design without a windshield, making it an open-top model. Wolfgang Egger, head designer at BYD and former chief of design at Audi, described the interior as "one of the best places in the world where you can experience the highest level of emotion and speed."
During the unveiling event, BYD did not disclose specific technical specifications or pricing details for the Super 9. However, the automaker announced that it will showcase the full lineup of its premium off-road EV brand, including the Bao 5, a flagship plug-in hybrid off-roader, and an all-electric concept crossover, at the upcoming Beijing Motor Show next week.
This latest move by BYD reflects the trend of Chinese automakers venturing into the high-end segment and competing in the luxury market. Earlier this year, BYD launched its first electric sports car, the Yangwang U9, with a price tag of RMB 1.68 million ($233,352). Deliveries of the Yangwang U9 are expected to begin in the middle of this year.
BYD's foray into the supercar market with the Super 9 demonstrates the company's commitment to pushing the boundaries of electric vehicle technology and design. With its premium off-road EV brand, Fangchengbao, BYD aims to cater to consumers seeking both performance and luxury in their electric vehicles.
