Big Chinese Companies Shine at 2024 CES

Chinese technology companies have made a remarkable comeback at the 2024 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.

Showcasing their latest advancements in cutting-edge technologies, these companies are demonstrating their prowess in artificial intelligence, next-generation semiconductor display, autonomous driving, robots, and augmented reality.

China's increasing role in bolstering technological innovation is evident at CES, where experts predict that intelligent devices powered by generative AI and the internet of things will become a key growth driver for the global consumer electronics industry.

With over 4,000 enterprises participating in CES, the event is organised by the US Consumer Technology Association. Among the participants, 1,114 companies are from China, highlighting the country's strong presence in the tech industry.

One of the highlights of this year's CES is the attention garnered by AI-powered terminal devices, particularly the ChatGPT chatbot. Chinese consumer electronics maker TCL showcased over 120 pieces of intelligent hardware, including quantum dot mini-LED TVs, AI processing chips, smartphones, intelligent AR goggles, and vehicle-mounted display products.

Hisense Group, a major Chinese home appliance manufacturer, unveiled its latest ultra-light-emitting diode (ULED) TV and laser display technology at CES. Display technology is widely applied in sports, education, and medical fields, continuously pushing technological boundaries, according to David Gold, vice-president of Hisense International.

Lenovo Group Ltd, the world's largest personal computer maker, introduced a full lineup of more than 40 new devices and solutions powered by AI. The company believes that this year will mark the advent of AI-based PCs.

Xpeng AeroHT, an affiliate of China's Xpeng Motors, showcased its pilotless flying car, an electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. This innovative display demonstrates Chinese tech companies' commitment to technological innovation and the application of AI in consumer electronics, intelligent devices, and electric vehicles.

Chinese augmented reality company Xreal partnered with companies such as Qualcomm and BMW to showcase its latest AR-enabled innovative products. CES attendees can experience Xreal's AR glasses during a Las Vegas tour hosted by BMW. The glasses seamlessly integrate in-car information, navigation cues, hazard warnings, entertainment content, and charging station details into the real environment through Xreal Air 2 glasses.

According to Pan Helin, co-director of the Digital Economy and Financial Innovation Research Center at Zhejiang University's International Business School, Chinese tech companies have the potential to lead not only in mature categories like smartphones but also in emerging fields such as artificial intelligence of things, AR, and VR.
