Audi to Invest US$1 Billion in Electric Vehicle Projects in Mexico

This significant investment is expected to create 500 new jobs, according to a statement from the Puebla government.

Tarek Mashhour, executive president of Audi Mexico, and Puebla Governor Sergio Salomon are keen to make the state a hub for electric automobiles. The company has already begun establishing infrastructure and equipment for the construction of a totally electric vehicle known as the "e-tron."

Audi, a Volkswagen affiliate, currently runs one facility in Mexico, in San Jose Chiapa, Puebla. The plant currently employs 5,000 people, making a considerable contribution to the local economy.

Governor Salomon reaffirmed his belief in Mexico's economic growth, saying, "Investors' confidence in Mexico is strengthened, as there is certainty that our country is growing economically." This statement responds to investor worries over a proposed judicial reorganisation. Mexican President-elect Claudia Sheinbaum has promised investors that the country will uphold the rule of law while moving forward with necessary reforms.

Despite confronting hurdles this year, Audi is still committed to its electric vehicle strategy. In March, Audi CEO Gernot Doellner reaffirmed the company's commitment to electric vehicles.
