Xiaomi Unveils Xuanjie O100 AI Terminal Without Rear Camera

Xiaomi president Lu Weibing presented the Xuanjie O100 prototype, an on device AI terminal designed without a rear camera. It features dual chip computing and active air cooling. The device operates the Xiaomi MiMo model, achieving an inference speed of approximately 295 tokens per second in testing.

The unveiling follows a technical briefing on Xiaomi's Xuanjie chip line. During the event, the company introduced three new chips and two prototypes for on device artificial intelligence. Mr Weibing later provided further details regarding the O100, characterising it as a "very high speed AI demonstration terminal" built specifically for large models processed on devices. This prototype integrates both the Xuanjie O3 and O100 chips within a dual chip arrangement. The design involves removing the conventional rear camera module and completely redesigning the motherboard. An active air cooling system, capable of up to 10 watts of cooling capacity, completes the hardware configuration.


And the internal MiMo on device model demonstrated an inference speed of roughly 295 tokens per second during field tests. Xiaomi's decision to remove the rear camera and redesign the chassis indicates the company's conviction that on device inference performance will define the next generation of flagship devices, rather than advanced imaging features. The company also showcased another prototype, the Xiaomi AI Cube. This mini host features a unibody aviation aluminium shell, distinguished by 33,874 precision CNC drilled vent holes. It maintains a sustained output of 150 watts.


The AI Cube houses the Xuanjie O3, O100, and D100 chips, coupled with 80 gigabytes of unified memory. This configuration allows it to run a 120 billion parameter model concurrently with a 3 billion parameter on device model, employing both fast and slow system switching mechanisms. Both the O100 terminal and the AI Cube underwent live demonstrations of their on device artificial intelligence capabilities. This comprehensive briefing represents a significant development in the Big Tech organisation's chip strategy. According to Pandaily, Xiaomi is actively moving critical computing tasks onto its internally developed system on chips, reducing reliance on external suppliers.


But beyond the two prototypes, the organisation also presented details on three new silicon products within its Xuanjie family. This reveals a concerted effort to consolidate Xiaomi's three strategic pillars into a cohesive device line. These pillars comprise internally developed system on chips, an AI driven operating system, and novel hardware form factors. The Xuanjie O3 chip is scheduled to make its commercial debut in the forthcoming Xiaomi 18 Fold device.


The Xiaomi 18 Fold is anticipated to launch in Sept. Meanwhile, the prototyping phase for the O100 is concluding, with the explicit objective of delivering large model inference directly to consumer devices. This strategic direction aims to integrate advanced artificial intelligence capabilities into the everyday technology used by the public. The developments signify Xiaomi's dedication to advancing on device AI processing for widespread adoption.
