Asus has launched the VivoWatch 6 Aero, a lightweight fitness tracker that the company claims is the world’s first wearable to offer both ECG and fingertip blood pressure readings.

Weighing just 27g, the device features a unique front-facing sensor that combines an optical sensor with a conductive border, enabling electrocardiogram functionality when the user places a finger on it. Additional sensors under the wrist support the ECG feature.
Asus says the sensor array was created using a sputter deposition process, which applies a thin conductive layer through physical vapour deposition.

The company has not detailed how the device’s optical and ECG sensors are used to measure blood pressure, a challenge that has eluded even major tech firms.
Asus notes that the availability of ECG and blood pressure features may vary by region. There is no confirmation that the device has received FDA approval or that it will be released in the United States.

Despite the uncertainty around its medical claims, the VivoWatch 6 Aero includes several standard fitness features. It has a 1.1-inch OLED screen, built-in GPS, and a 135mAh battery that Asus says lasts five days on a full charge, or seven days in battery saver mode.
The device is rated 5ATM for water resistance, comparable to Fitbit’s Inspire 3.
Asus has not yet announced the price of the VivoWatch 6 Aero. Its predecessor, the VivoWatch 5 Aero, also made a “world’s first” claim in 2023 as the first smart wristband to offer one-touch Pulse Transit Time and blood oxygen measurement.
