Apple has unveiled its next-generation AirTag, featuring the same Apple Ultra Wideband chip found in the recent iPhone 17 lineup, the lightweight iPhone Air, the Apple Watch Ultra 3, and the Apple Watch Series 11. This integration expands its findability range and enables compatibility with more Apple devices.

The new item-finder aims to make locating lost items quicker and easier. The original AirTag, first launched in 2021, has been a reliable item-finder for many travellers, offering on-screen directions known as Precision Finding to locate bags.

The second-generation AirTag improves upon its predecessor by offering an increased range, allowing users to find lost items from up to 50% farther away. Apple states it has updated the internal design to include an improved speaker, which is claimed to be 50% louder than the previous generation.
Despite these upgrades, the new AirTag retains the same design as its predecessor, ensuring compatibility with all existing Apple AirTag accessories.
Apple is also extending Precision Finding support to compatible Apple Watch models, specifically Series 9 or later and Watch Ultra 2 or later. Precision Finding utilises haptic, audio, and visual feedback to guide users to their lost items, a functionality now available directly on their Apple Watch.
In a press release, Apple stated, “The new AirTag is designed from the ground up to keep location data private and secure. AirTag doesn’t physically store location data or history on device, and end-to-end encryption protects all communication with the Find My network, ensuring that only the owner of a device can access its location data.”
The second-generation AirTag is priced the same as its predecessor. A single unit costs USD 29, and a pack of four is available for USD 99.
The new AirTag is currently available for order via the Apple Store app. It will also be made available through Apple Store locations.
The new AirTag features an Apple Ultra Wideband chip for expanded range and device compatibility.
It offers up to 50% greater findability range and a speaker claimed to be 50% louder than the previous generation.
Precision Finding support is extended to Apple Watch Series 9 or later and Watch Ultra 2 or later.
