Google Pixel 6 Might Have a Magic Eraser Feature for Photos and Five Years of Security Updates

Recently, leaker Evan Blass tweeted screenshots of a website that revealed that the Google Pixel 6 and the Pixel 6 Pro will have a Magic Eraser feature for pictures and will benefit from five years of Android security updates.

The Carphone Warehouse website had pages of Google marketing materials for the Pixel 6 and the Pixel 6 Pro. Both pages have been taken down but you can view the archived versions of the Carphone Warehouse pages here and here.

The leaks mentioned a Magic Eraser tool that lets users remove strangers and unwanted objects in Google Photos. In a footnote, Google states that the feature "may not work on all image elements". The same footnote was found on mentions of Face Unblur, a feature that de-blurs faces in photos.

The Pixel 6 might also have Motion Mode, which lets you "add extra depth" to a shot by leaving some sense of motion in the picture. Motion Mode was not mentioned in the now-deleted Pixel 6 Pro page on Carphone Warehouse's website, but Magic Eraser and Face Unblur were.

Google also stated in the Pixel 6 and the Pixel 6 Pro marketing materials that users can take portrait shots that handle different skin tones more accurately.

It was also revealed that the Pixel 6 might have a brand new 50MP camera that has bigger sensors to let you capture more colour, detail and 150% more light compared to the Pixel 5. Meanwhile, the Pixel 6 Pro might feature Super Res Zoom, which lets you zoom up to 20x.

Both Pixel 6 devices might come with IP68 dust and water resistance. When Extreme Battery Saver is enabled, the Pixel 6's battery could last up to 48 hours.

The leaked materials include a footnote that reads: "Android security updates for at least five years from when the device first became available on the Google Store in the US." This would mean that Pixel 6 devices would have protection into 2026, considering the confirmed launch of the Pixel 6 and the Pixel 6 Pro on 19 October 2021. Leaker Jon Prosser said that the smartphones might go on sale on 28 October.

However, it is possible that the Pixel 6 and the Pixel 6 Pro might not launch in Singapore. Aside from not getting any ads for the devices, Singapore is also missing from the list of launch markets where the Pixel 6 and the Pixel 6 Pro will be rolled out. So it's possible that consumers in Singapore might not be able to purchase these products.

In August 2021, Google announced the Pixel 6 and the Pixel 6 Pro, which will be powered by the firm's first system-on-chip called the Google Tensor. This will be the first time Google will add a mobile Tensor Processing Unit (TPU) to a phone.

The TPU will be able to process Google's most intricate AI and machine learning (ML) models. This will result in improved mobile camera capabilities, speech recognition and other anticipated Pixel 6 features.

When it comes to cameras, the Pixel 6 phones will shoot sharper images with the help of ML, reducing blur in photos.

The Pixel 6 Pro will have three cameras on its back: a wide-angle main sensor, a 4x optical-zoom folded telephoto lens and an ultrawide lens.

Meanwhile, the Pixel 6 will have everything but the telephoto lens, leaving it with just two cameras. Each smartphone will come in three different colour combos.
