Amazon to Launch Discount Section with Direct Shipping from China
Amazon intends to introduce a discount area on its shopping site, containing low-cost items supplied directly from China. The new marketplace will sell unbranded clothing, household items, and daily essentials. Products are estimated to be delivered within 9 and 11 days.
The move is viewed as Amazon's response to the growing popularity of discount websites such as Temu and Shein.
The bargain segment will include unbranded apparel, home goods, and daily essentials, with purchases scheduled to arrive within 9 to 11 days. Amazon intends to sign up Chinese merchants this summer and start receiving products in the fall.
Sellers on the new marketplace will have the freedom to choose their own product selection and pricing. They will also be able to generate modest quantities of new products to gauge market demand. Amazon seeks to provide customers more options, cheaper pricing, and greater ease.
It is unclear whether these shipments will be made under a US trade clause that exempts individual items worth less than $800 from US customs charges. Bargain sites such as Shein and Temu rely on expedited clearance procedures for direct-to-consumer shipments worth $800 or less.
Amazon's decision to introduce a budget area with direct shipment from China is intended to broaden its appeal and attract price-conscious customers. Amazon hopes to capitalise on the enormous assortment of low-cost products accessible in China by partnering with Chinese retailers.
In a statement to Reuters, an Amazon spokesperson said, "We are always exploring new ways to work with our selling partners to delight our customers with more selection, lower prices, and greater convenience."
